This concluding chapter reflects on a number of cross-cutting findings, and charts potential avenues for future research. Often critiques of statebuilding are embedded on abstract labyrinth of knowledge without much perceptive and social attachment to the real world of statebuilding. Contrary to this, chapters in this book have used situated knowledge, often informed by their own extensive field research and wider observation of their subjective experiences of statebuilding process. Though, to the surprise of many, this book illustrates that the local is not an antidote to the liberal. Across different chapters, it can be noted that the ontological, epistemological, and methodological positionality of local scholars is rather embedded on western thinking. Yet, chapters in the book highlighted the local cry for a different relationship between Kosovar society and the international community: one that promotes emancipation and not never-ending intervention; one that encourages development and not chronic dependence. By way of conclusion, this chapter offers five practical steps that could contribute to localising and decolonising knowledge about and for conflict-affected societies we offer five practical steps that could contribute to localising and decolonising knowledge about and for conflict-affected societies.
